Bert Gaddis, DVM
Dr. Bert Gaddis is a well established presence in Pelham and the Greater Birmingham area, having provided excellence in veterinary care since 1984. He received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Dairy Science in 1981, and his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1983. Dr. Gaddis joined the staff at Roswell Animal Hospital in 1983 and then moved over to Indian Springs Animal Hospital, purchasing the full service clinic in 1984.
In the late 1980’s he attended dental courses sponsored by the American Animal Hospital Association, and discovered that he had a special interest in that area of veterinary medicine. Finding a need for veterinary dental practitioners, Dr. Gaddis began performing dental services such as tooth extractions, and let his local fellow veterinarians know what he was comfortable doing. In the latter half of the 1990’s, Dr. Gaddis began an alternate pathway residency in dentistry through the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). This type of residency allowed him to maintain his practice while he fulfilled the residency requirements. The AVDC sets rigorous standards and criteria for certification. He passed the examinations for board-certification in 2009 and earned the title of Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. Dr. Gaddis is now one of about 200 board-certified animal dentists in the United States, and he is currently the only board-certified animal dentist practicing in the state of Alabama.
In June of 2020, Dr. Gaddis recreated Indian Springs Animal Hospital, renaming it Animal Dental Specialists and changing the focus of the clinic to animal dental services exclusively. The new clinic accepts dental referrals from veterinarians in the Greater Birmingham area, Huntsville, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa.
Dr. Gaddis lives in Homewood with his wife Susan and their two sons, Robert and James. They share their home with a lab named Lulu and a rescue named Gracie..
